National Cancer Charity Appoints New Events Officer

Mesothelioma UK has appointed Rachel Owen as its new Events Officer. Rachel will be based at the charity’s HQ in Leicestershire and will be responsible for organising events to raise funds for, and increase awareness of, the national asbestos-related cancer charity.

Rachel joins Mesothelioma UK after working for eight years in events roles at various organisations and hotels in the East Midlands.

Prior to joining Mesothelioma UK, Rachel worked as an Events Organiser for the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), focused on developing and delivering education days and workshop events for legal and healthcare professionals.

Rachel has a degree in Events Management from the University College Birmingham.

Commenting on her new role, Rachel said: “I was aware of industrial diseases such as mesothelioma through my work with personal injury lawyers and decided it would be great to work for a charity that helps victims of industrial disease. I’m looking forward to helping to promote the charity and its services, and to increasing the fundraising efforts and success.”

Head of Services for Mesothelioma UK, Liz Darlison said: “As a charity, we already run regular events, both for patients and healthcare professionals. In this new role, Rachel will develop new events and build on our existing ones to establish them as ‘not to be missed’ events. Her experience and enthusiasm will be a huge asset to the team and the charity.”
