Mesothelioma UK is bidding farewell to our Clinical Nurse Specialist at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, Jo Hargrave. Jo is moving to a new thoracic nursing position at St Bartholomew’s and the whole team at Mesothelioma UK wishes her all the best in her new role.
Whilst at St Bartholomew’s, Jo supported patients diagnosed with mesothelioma, working alongside both the oncology and surgical teams at Barts Health NHS Trust to support mesothelioma patients throughout all stages of diagnosis and treatment.
Mesothelioma UK is extremely grateful to the London Asbestos Support and Awareness Group (LASAG) who have kindly supported Jo’s post with generous donations. The team at St Bartholomew’s are hoping to recruit a new post holder and thank you again to LASAG who have confirmed they will continue to support the post.
Jodie Bull, Support Manager at LASAG commented: “It has been a pleasure, as a London-based charity, to be able to support Mesothelioma UK in the funding of the nursing post and we very much look forward to committing to the appointment of a new nurse. We would like to wish Jo all the best in the future and a thank you for the incredible support she has provided to mesothelioma patients in London.”
Joanne Hargrave said: “After 5½ years in a combined mesothelioma and thoracic surgery nurse specialist post, I am now moving full-time into my thoracic nurse role at St Bartholomew’s.
“I have learnt so much in my time in the Mesothelioma UK team from my colleagues across the UK. It’s a unique team to be part of – you can’t see them but they are right there when you need them. They are always responsive and present across the miles to bring together our expertise and support, to inform our patient care. The miles and a global pandemic can’t stop us!!”
Leah Taylor, Head of Nursing at Mesothelioma UK added: “We will all miss Jo, who was the second Mesothelioma UK nurse to be appointed in London. She’s made a fantastic contribution to our UK nursing team, and has supported the treatment and care of many mesothelioma patients at St Bart’s. We wish her well for her move to thoracic nursing and look forward to welcoming a new clinical nurse specialist there in the future.”
