Celebrating women at our Ladies Lunch event

A packed audience came together on Friday 20 March in Manchester for our annual Ladies Lunch celebration.

At the Marriott Manchester Victoria and Albert Hotel, patients, carers, family members, nurses, clinicians, legal professionals and supporters joined the Mesothelioma UK team to recognise, honour and celebrate the vital role that women play across the mesothelioma community.

The event traditionally shines a light on the experiences of women who are affected by mesothelioma in many different ways – whether they’re living with the disease, or supporting, caring for or advocating for others.

Speakers make for a great day

On the day, we heard from our presenters, Mesothelioma UK CEO, Liz Darlison and Mesothelioma UK Ambassador and patient, Kate Williams. They also introduced an emotional yet uplifting talk from patient, Sue Farrall who talked about her mesothelioma journey in a frank and honest way, before Richard Blunt outlined his mother’s story and how he is working with the charity to advocate for changes in policy and legislation around asbestos safety.

Guests enjoyed a three-course meal, before we finished with a live auction and raffle to raise valuable funds for the charity.

Megan Huxtable, our Community Fundraising Officer, who helped to organise this year’s Ladies Lunch said: “What a wonderful day it was! Thank you so much to everyone who supported us and made it another successful event – your unwavering support and commitment to helping Mesothelioma UK is so very much appreciated. Together, we are making mesothelioma matter.”

Acknowledging those who supported

Mesothelioma UK would like to thank all of our speakers for their time and the guests who attended, supporting the vital work that improves the lives of people living with mesothelioma.

We would also like to thank the team at Marriott Manchester Victoria and Albert Hotel for hosting us, and our sponsors – RWK Goodman, Leigh Day, Irwin Mitchell, Hugh James, Thompson Solicitors, the Asbestos Law Partnership, Slater + Gordon, and Fieldfisher – for their ongoing support and commitment to mesothelioma patients and their families.
