Amy Smith’s father, Ray, was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma in 2016. Like most families, the diagnosis turned their world upside-down. Ray was a fit and healthy man, gentle and quiet, and could always be relied upon to solve any problems.
The problem of building up his strength after surgery to remove the cancer was not a problem that he could easily fix, though. After initial surgery, that was partially successful, Ray was told that he needed to increase his weight and strength before further treatment could take place.
Amy and the family saw how Ray struggled to regain his strength and weight because he simply couldn’t eat a regular diet. He also struggled with traditional meal supplements due to their thick consistency and large volume.
The only things that Ray could consume easily and that gave him some relief, were ice lollies. Although tasty and refreshing, they offered little in the way of calories or nutrition, which is why the family started to infuse Ray’s supplement drinks with fruit and freeze them to make them more palatable.
Sadly, Ray passed away in 2017. Devastated, yet determined to make a difference, the family founded icesupp in 2021, with the aim of helping others challenged with unwanted weight loss and to support those struggling to consume conventional supplements in a regular diet.
