Thank you V.S.F Ltd!

Back in September 2023, we heard from Rio Jefferys, who told us his story. After his granddad died of mesothelioma, his dad’s company, V.S.F Ltd, became one of our regular donors.

“My dad and his business partner established V.S.F Ltd in 2008, removing asbestos from garage roofs. We currently have 10 installation teams nationwide and between them, they remove asbestos from about 50 roofs per week. Some of our customers are aware that it’s asbestos in their roofs when they call us but the majority aren’t. What sets us apart is that we not only remove the asbestos, but we treat it and safely dispose of it to make sure that it doesn’t pose a danger to anyone else.

“It still shocks me how little awareness there is about asbestos and the dangers it poses. The UK is one of the most developed countries in the world but seems to be doing the least when it comes to addressing the problem. Other countries have plans to remove a certain amount of asbestos from buildings by a certain date or provide grants to people to cover the costs of asbestos removal from their homes, but the UK doesn’t seem to be making it a priority.

“We began donating to Mesothelioma UK after I spoke to Liz (Darlison, charity CEO) at an Asbestonomy Conference in Brussels. My grandad, who died from mesothelioma, used to work as a roofer, so Mesothelioma UK is the perfect fit for our company in terms of our values and what they stand for. Raising awareness about the dangers of asbestos, as well as removing it from buildings is something that I feel the government needs to make a priority. Prevention is better than cure and while we all can do our bit to help, the responsibility ultimately lies with the government.”

Many thanks to Rio and the team at V.S.F Ltd for their continued support.
