Specialist nurse appointed for mesothelioma patients in Manchester

Lisa Clarke has been appointed as a Mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to support patients across Manchester. The post is funded by national charity, Mesothelioma UK.

Lisa will be based at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Lisa previously worked as a Staff Nurse on the pulmonary oncology unit at the hospital.

Mesothelioma UK supports 25 Mesothelioma CNSs across the UK, each based within an NHS hospital and dedicated to providing expert, specialist mesothelioma support, information, treatment and care across the region in which they are based.

Before working at Wythenshawe Hospital, Lisa was a Staff Nurse for 11 years at the Salford Royal Hospital, working in neurosurgery. Lisa developed an interest in oncology through treating patients with spinal and brain tumours.

In her new role, Lisa will be offering both clinical help and practical advice such as where to go for benefits advice and support.

Commenting on her new role, Lisa said: “It’s a really challenging and interesting area to work in and I’m happy to be able to help support both patients and their families. Seeing patients in the clinic setting and on the wards, I’m enjoying being able to spend more time with patients to really support them.

“I’m hoping to learn a lot from the rest of the Mesothelioma UK nursing team – it’s great to have others there for advice and to share best practice.”

Liz Darlison, Mesothelioma UK Head of Services, added “We’re delighted to welcome Lisa to the Mesothelioma UK team which is having a remarkable impact across the UK. With the significant number of mesothelioma patients in Greater Manchester and Cheshire, Lisa will make a real difference to the care of people with mesothelioma and their carers.”
