Title: "Living well" with Mesothelioma: Improving the patient experience. A qualitative study

Detailed info: The GEMS study aims to explore the experiences of men and women with mesothelioma, their family, carers as well as the various staff they come into contact with . The overall aim is to identify the differences and similarities in the experience of men and omen with mesothelioma across the care pathway. We will seek to understand why any differences that are identified occur.

Detailed info: A study to identify best practice for patient follow-up care to help them to lead fulfilling lives and ‘live well’ with their condition. The study will involve interviews with patients to identify any common themes around what constitutes living well. Studies involving patients with other long-term conditions have highlighted patients’ need for self-esteem and reliable professional and peer support, retaining personal responsibility and preserving identity.

Detailed info: The aims of this stage of the research are to:

  • understand the experience and health/ support needs of British Armed Forces personnel/veterans with mesothelioma (with and without exposure through the Armed Forces) and family carers
  • identify how best health professionals and support agencies within the Armed Forces and NHS can best meet the care and support needs of British Armed Forces personnel/veterans with mesothelioma

Title: Receiving a diagnosis of Mesothelioma - Improving the patient experience RADIO Meso

Detailed info: The project aimed at identifying ways to improve the patient and family carer experience of receiving a diagnosis of mesothelioma. Patients and family carers were asked to recall their experience of receiving a mesothelioma diagnosis and to tell the team ‘what went well?’ and ‘what could have been better?’.
