Ethan Douglass - 13 years old
Ethan' Story - I would like to tell you about my Granddad. I was only six when he passed away because he had a disease called Mesolelioma, but I still remember him for all these reasons and miss him a lot: He was funny and he made me laugh, He gave me pony rides on his back, He helped Nan to make the best dinners, He would take me out for breakfast-, He used to make hot chocolate for him and me when we were cold, He would play Chess with me, We would wrestle, We would build tents in the garden and have tea party's in them, He helped me to ride a bike without stabilisers, We used to build things out of Lego,He always came to my birthday parties and joined in, Sometimes we would just watch TV together, I enjoyed sleeping at Nanny and Granddad's house, If I had a nightmare he would always stay with me, He used to give me a kiss goodnight... Mesothelioma took my Granddad away from me and my family too early. Mesothelioma UK helped my Nanny when Granddad passed, but I know it would make him very proud that I am competing in the Mini Rush at the Secret Nuclear Bunker in Brentwood, Essex with my sister Hollie on 12th may 2013 to help them help more people. Mini Rush is a 1.5 mile cross country race with obstacles along the way. If you would donate some money it would make me very happy! Please click here..... Thank you.
Hollie Douglass - 8 years old
Hollie's Story - In 2006, when I was two years old my Granddad became ill. He found it very hard to breath and would often be out of puff. This didn't stop my Granddad always being around to play with me. We used to make tents in his garden and he would have tea parties with me. He gave me pony rides on his back - it was great fun. By 2008 Granddad was so poorly he could hardly breath at all. In October 2008 he was diagnosed with Mesothelioma which is a cancer caused by a material called Asbestos. Two weeks later Granddad passed away in hospital on 28th October 08. Mesothelioma UK helped my Nanny very much after Granddad passed and I would like to help them in return. On 12th May 2013, I will be trying to complete the Mini Rush (Website) at the Secret Nuclear Bunker in Brentwood, Essex. with my big brother Ethan. Mini Rush is a 1.5 mile cross country assault course and will be very hard for me as I am only 8 years old. Please help me to help other families who are suffering from this horrible disease in memory of my lovely Granddad. If you would like to support Hollies amazing challenge then please click here. Thank you...

Many people havent heard of mesothelioma, I myself hadn't until my Dads diagnosis and I wnat ot help to make people aware and to riase money to fund research into a possible cure".
Hazel Pike
Hazel will be donning running shoes to take part in the Edinburgh marathon on the 26th May 2013, she is doing this wonderful fete in memory of her lovely Dad who sadly died from mesothelioma last year, this is Hazels story.... "Up until December 2011 I'd never heard of the word mesothelioma let alone known how to pronounce it. I'll never forget it now. When my dear dad was diagnosed with it at the age of 73 and we found out there wasn't, and still isn't, a cure we were all devastated to say the least. It was just a matter of time and as it turned out there wasn't much of that neither. My dad was an electrician from the age of 15 and worked with asbestos in boilers and probably buildings which contained it. Whether he realised the dangers of it at that time I don't know. Initially, he'd gone to the doctors about his stomach and eventually found out he'd got stomach cancer. That was bad enough. It was during the tests for that he found out he had a tumour on his left lung. Then the mesothelioma diagnosis came about. We were told he'd have two years, in the end it was only six months and he never had a day free of the pain in that time. He was extremely brave and never got upset or angry about it despite being such a good person in his life to not only his family but strangers as well.I am running Edinburgh marathon to raise money to help all the other people who are now going through the same awful thing as what my dad and our family did.My dad wasn't keen on me running but I think he will be proud of me using it to raise money to help other people in the same situation. We'll never forget him". If you would like to support Hazel please click here and make your donation or you can text SOTU74 £10 to 70070.
